Health Economics and Diabetic Foot Lesions

For many years clinicians have recognised that prevention of diabetic foot lesions is vital - simply because at the individual and societal level, these complications are extremely costly.  It is surprising therefore that there are relatively few reports however on the health-economic consequences of diabetic foot complications. It is one thing for clinicians who use the PRAFO for example, to believe that this device can prevent heel ulcers, but it is important to have evidence of such efficacy and that such action is cost-effective.

RehaStim can be set with Sequence Mode softwareRehaStim has proved itself to be very effective for FES Cycling.  Partnered with a MOTOmed motion trainer, we have many clients around the world routinely exercising at home.  Whether following spinal cord injury or post-acute stroke, this technology has an evidence base supporting its use.  It’s often not considered therapy any more – this is about enhancing quality of life.

However, RehaStim DOES have a powerful role to assist therapists who have more general muscle stimulation needs. When you don’t want to use FES as part of a fixed FES Cycling regime, there is a version of RehaStim for you.

Brain imaging identifies ways to help stroke patients

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

An important breakthrough in understanding how the brain works could help stroke patients to regain their speech. The UK charity Action Medical Research has announced the results of the study as a "leap forward in understanding".

The charity says that patients could benefit from this discovery within the next three to five years.  Up to one quarter of stroke patients suffer from speech impairment of some degree. This can mean difficulty with speaking and understanding what is said to them or even trouble with reading and writing.

Some people find that, over time, their speech and understanding improves but many more face an uphill struggle and some never recover; even with therapy. Until now little was known about why some patients make progress and some do not.
