FES Cycling client in the news
A news item in the Courier features Anatomical Concepts (UK) client Kevin Christie. Left blind and paralysed from the chin down following an accident at a summer barbecue a number of years ago, Kevin has expressed his lasting gratitude to all those who continue to support and care for him.
Kevin (37) severed his spinal cord and suffered terrible consequences when a seemingly harmless bit of horseplay at a party in 2004 went horribly wrong. On that day Kevin miscalculated a dive into a children's paddling pool and sustained an injury which has left him requiring almost round-the-clock care.

Evidence for Upper Extremity Retraining Post Stroke
An upcoming Symposium supported by Anatomical Concepts (UK) will review the state of the art.
Following a stroke, being able to regain use of an affected arm and hand again is often a personal priority for individuals. Sadly, many stroke survivors feel they receive very little or no attention from their clinicians for this problem. There are a number of reasons for this. One is a belief by some clinicians that very little can help. Research however is much more favourable.
In an upcoming Symposium at the UK Stroke Forum Conference, we will take a look at his issue.

New Stroke Management Guidelines Published
SIGN 118 Management of patients with stroke has been published today Tuesday 1st June. The full guideline and quick reference guide in PDF format is attached but can also be viewed through the following link http://www.sign.ac.uk/guidelines/fulltext/118/index.html. A full summary of the recommendations in Word format will also be available on the website shortly.
Abdominal stimulation and acute tetraplegia
FES for breathing support - Using abdominal muscle stimulation to
assist ventilator weaning in acute tetraplegia has been the subject of
research conducted at the University of Glasgow and the Queen Elizabeth
National Spinal Injuries Unit in Glasgow, Scotland. This research was
reported recently at the UK IFESS meeting and the UK’s Spinal Cord
Injury Research Meeting. Our first client is now using our RehaStim with
custom software successfully at home.
ISPO World Congress Instructional Course
